Windows Media Format Runtime for Windows 7 is a codec pack, an official Microsoft product, with all the necessary routines so that you can play videos in Windows 7 through Windows Media Player, or other compatible programs.

With Windows Media Format Runtime you can enable support for the Windows Media format, for applications that support Windows Media files, by installing the Feature Pack for Windows Media formats. Windows Media Format Runtime will only install the components required for compatibility with Windows Media.

Although this is default in most editions of Windows 7, others don't include Windows Media Format Runtime for Windows 7. If this is your case, or unfortunately you have them but they're only semi-uninstalled or corrupted, or even if you have them but video playback on your PC isn't smooth, you may need to reinstall some or all of the codecs included in Windows Media Format Runtime. Luckily you only need to download the package that's provided here, install it, and off you go!
